As an official approved stable with the Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois and Girls Scouts of Greater Chicago and North West Indiana, we are ready to mix our love of horses and knowledge of their history, health and care, uses in todays society and a wealth of other fun facts to make a great outing for any scout group!
Our 2 hour program covers the following topics
History of Horses
Safety around horses
Tack Styles
Everyday Care of the Horse
How horses helped develop our country
Safety while grooming
Different Breeds of Horses
Proper clothing when riding
What and how much a horse eats
Long term care of the horse
Proper grooming
How to mount & dismount a horse, properly placing your feet in the stirrups and how to hold your reins and steer!
We conduct this program on Saturday afternoons from 4 to 6pm and only on select Saturdays
* Each scout will get two ride two times around our indoor arena. All riders will be led by one of our staff.
* The cost is $15.00 per Scout. There is no charge for leaders, and leaders will not be allowed to ride.
* Each rider needs to be wearing long pants (preferably jeans), A shoe that ties or fastens and is NOT a slip on. Flip flops or sandals ARE NOT allowed!
* HELMETS ARE REQUIRED when a rider is on the horse riding. Both councils should have riding helmets available for you use upon contact of the council, or bike helmets will be allowed for these programs
* Each rider MUST have a completed and signed RIDER RELEASE FORM to be able to participate in any of our activities. These forms must be signed by a parent or guardian. NO EXCEPTIONS! Download our release form here
* We do schedule more than one troop at a time depending on the number of riders in each troop, however we do limit the overall size of each program to 35-40 riders
